Recommend Towing Components To Tow 4400 lb Travel Trailer With My 2003 R/T Durango
Question:
I have a 2003 R/T Durango 5.9L that I want to set up to tow our 4400lb travel trailer. The vehicle came with the standard Dodge tow package for the R/T. There is significant rear end sag when I hooked up the trailer even with the weight distribution bars. I am looking for three things... a full suspension recommendation, transmission cooler recommendation and stopping power. Thanks in advance guys.

Weight distribution systems and vehicle enhancement options are not usually recommended to be used in conjunction since they can cancel each other out. I would recommend a weight distribution system to help reduce vehicle sag.
For a weight distribution system, you want to select a weight distribution system that falls within the tongue weight of your trailer which is 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight when it is loaded and ready to be towed.
You will want to make sure not to exceed the towing and tongue weight capacity of your Dodge Durango as stated in the vehicle owners manual.
The Derale Transmission Cooler, part # D13502, would be a good option for your vehicle. You will want to measure to make sure there is room to mount it. The cooler measures 11 inches wide by 7-1/4 inches tall, and is 7/8 of an inch thick. The ideal place to mount a transmission cooler for maximum cooling efficiency is behind the grille of your Durango but in front of the radiator.
For stopping power, you will want to install a brake controller on your vehicle to activate the brakes on your trailer. I would recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885, for its ease to use and setup. If your vehicle has a factory 7-way you will want to use the vehicle specific adapter, part # 3020-P. If your Durango does not have a factory 7-way, you will need to install T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 118381, and Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7.
f you choose to add rear suspension enhancement as well, I would recommend the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, part # TDDR00. This system can help with ride quality and reduce body roll. Part # TDDR00 will fit both the 2 and 4-wheel drive models of the Dodge Durango.
I have linked instruction for the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, part # TDDR00. Also linked is an FAQ Article and a video installation of a transmission cooler and an FAQ on brake controllers.
