For the bed rails compatible with your 1996 K3500 Diesel Dually 4x4, I recommend the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - 10 Bolt # RP30035. The instructions on this will put the king pin center approximately 1-1/2 inches forward of the center of your rear axle.
These rails will work with an older Demco Hijacker similar to the # DM6076P-16K. You may also be interested in adding a 2nd 7-way trailer connector to the bed of your truck using the Draw-Tite 7-Way Pre-Wired Car Connector, 7' Lead # 20023.
