For your 2010 Jeep Liberty, I recommend you start with the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118554. This will connect to your factory wiring behind your tail lights. Then because you are wanting to run a trailer with brakes, I recommend you install the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires # ETBC7. This kit will give you the wiring, connectors, and circuit breakers needed for an electric brake controller.
For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195. This brake controller is proportional meaning it will give your the same braking pressure at the same time to your trailer brakes as you hit the brake pedal in your Jeep Liberty. This controller also has the manual override function and has a very easy to use LCD screen. This takes code deciphering out of the equation an also allows you to have presets that will make setup easy for various trailers.
This combination will give you an excellent system for your 2010 Jeep Liberty.
