Solenoid Recommendation for Preventing Trailer Breakaway Kit from Draining Vehicle Battery
Question:
Im interested in your trailer brake system item#Item # 20099 and was wondering, since I will be hooking this to the wire that is the aux power, 1 oclock on my 7 way, will it drain my vehicle battery if I leave it hooked up for longer periods of time? This wire is hot 24/7 on my factory system.

Trailer breakaway systems like the Hopkins # 20099 that you referenced are not known for draining vehicle batteries if left connected. An easy fix for this is a diode like part # PK5231201 installed on the power wire of the 7-way. This only lets power come on when the key of the vehicle is on.
Common circuits to use are radio, power antenna, ignition, traction control switch.
