Recommended Brake Controller to Use in Two Vehicles and Wiring for 1995 Ford F-150
Question:
I had asked previously about a electric brake controller for a motorhome and was happy with the answer. I will be taking the brake controller and using on both the motorhome and a 1995 Ford 150 truck. You recommended the Tekonsha P2 or P3 unit, Is one easier to move than the other? Secondly I am looking for a quick connect wiring for the F150 to a 6 or 7 pin round plug

The Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 and Prodigy P3 # 90195 Trailer Brake Controllers are both excellent controllers and very similar to each other. The Prodigy P3 is essentially an upgraded version of the P2 that features an easier to use interface and some added features. Both controllers are extremely simple to transfer between tow vehicles but the P3 might be the better option because it actually has 5 storable settings that will allow you to customize the controller for multiple trailers, varying loads or even different drivers. This will allow you to pretty much take it out of one vehicle, plug it into the other, and immediately head out on your trip without having to re-adjust any of the settings or controls.
I recommend adding a second Mounting Bracket # TK5906 so you can have one mounted in both of your tow vehicles. One will already be included with the Prodigy P3.
For your 1995 Ford F-150, you can use the Plug-In Adapter # 3035-P to install the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195. One end of the adapter will plug into the controller itself and the other end will connect to the built-in harness behind the truck's dash.
If you already have a 7-Way connector on the truck and you are just needing a way to adapt it to a 6-Way for your trailer, you can use an adapter like the Hopkins # 47549.
If you do not yet have any trailer connector installed on the F-150, you will first need to install a 4-Way with the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118316. This harness is custom-fit for your truck and will install by connecting to the built-in ports located under the vehicle on the driver side. I have attached an installation video on the 1994 F-150 that you can use for reference. Once the 4-Way is installed, you will need to use the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7, which includes everything needed to install a fully functional 7-Way from the 4-Way. I have attached an article that details the installation steps for this kit that you might find helpful.
