Correct Base Plates to Flat Tow a 1990 Mazda Miata

Question:

I have a Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain tow bar and want to tow a 90 Miata behind our motorhome. What brackets are required for the Miata? Is the crossbar required when towing a Miata? Thanks.

The correct base plates to flat tow your 1990 Mazda Miata are the Roadmaster XL # 711-4. These base plates will work with your Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain tow bar # RM-522 using the included quick-disconnects and crossbar. You will also need safety chains, Roadmaster # RM-643 for 68" chains or # RM-645-76 for 76" chains.

For lighting, you can either use magnetic tow lights # TL21RK if you do not plan on towing your Miata often, or Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154 for a more permanent solution. A supplemental braking system is now required in most states, and I highly recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251, a proportional system which is a one-time set up that will not require you to activate or remove the system after it is installed.

Finally, it is likely you will need a high-low adapter to keep your Miata level with your tow vehicle. The adapter you need is going to depend on some measurements you'll need to take. I have added a link to a help article on high-low adapters which explains the measurements you'll need, as well as a link to our page with each of our adapters.

I've also added links to video reviews of these products for you to take a look at.
