Should 12 Volt Power Circuit of 7-Way Charge Trailer Battery

Question:

Hello, I put a volt meter on my travel trailer that has 2 - 12v marine batteries and got a voltage of 11.58v I then towed it about 10 miles home and when I got home, there was voltage reading of 11.56v. Shouldnt the truck charge the batteries? I know my 2001 silverado 1500 did.

Expert Reply:

The difference between 11.56 and 11.58 volts is pretty small relatively speaking. The truck SHOULD be putting a maintenance charge on the battery as you are towing, but the amount of voltage that circuit puts out isn't so large that it will make a huge difference.

Test the 1:00 pin of your 7-way for voltage with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to see if its active.
