The operating unit for the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251 referenced in your question can be installed in the engine compartment but should be away from any extreme heat source. Also keep in mind that the connections will need to be easily accessible. A good location on your Kia Soul might be behind the grill, as long as it doesn't restrict air flow to the radiator.
