Troubleshootiing Curt Venturer Trailer Brake Controller Red Light Flashing Red

Question:

First of all I installed this myself following directions here and youtube. Every now and than when I turn on my park/head lights my brakes would activate, and I have to shut my lights off. Now today while traveling in the rain the light is constantly flicking red. Not flashing but flickering crazy!

The Curt Venturer Trailer Brake Controller # C74VV definitely has a short somewhere. The attached installation details show that the red flashing light due to an overload or short circuit. I recommend checking all of your connections and ensuring you have a good ground connection. You can use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to check functions and find the short. Replace the wires as needed.

It sounds like the red wire of your controller could be attached to the wrong brake switch circuit. It also could be corrosion on either the vehicle side or the trailer side connectors. The brake magnets could be wearing out on your trailer. There are some possibilities to check.
