Recommended Wiring Harness for 2017 Toyota Highlander with Factory Tow Package

Question:

My 2017 Highlander comes with a tow package. I just ordered a hitch from you, and am looking for the trailer wiring kitsimple 4 wire. Do I need the one with the controller with it, about $35 of just the wire one about $15. All 2017 Toyota Highlanders come with the tow package. In the Toyota literature that I can find, the tow package includes lots of stuff, but fails to mention anything about a wiring harness. You guys have any idea? Thanks

If your 2017 Toyota Highlander does indeed have the factory tow package, I recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # 56042. This will easily install a 4-Way trailer connector by connecting to the existing port located behind the driver's side interior trim panel in the rear cargo area.

If your Highlander has the tow package, this means it already has a built-in converter under the dash, so the converter box is not needed. If you are at all unsure, you can always visit your local Toyota dealer with your VIN and they will be able to verify whether or not the vehicle was equipped with the tow package at the factory.

If you happen to discover that your vehicle does not have a tow package and there is no converter behind the dash, you will just need to instead use # C56217.
