Recommended Flat Towing Setup for a 2006 Jeep TJ

Question:

Weve recently bought a new RV that came with a Blue OX set up including the patriot brake actuator. I need to get a baseplate for the TJ well be towing and a lighting set up. Can you point me in the right direction for those parts? Also does the patriot plug into the back of the RV to be controlled, and if so where do the lights get plugged into? Its a bit tricky for us as we dont seem to have all the manuals for the set up that the previous owners of the RV had. Any help you can give would be great. Thanks!

If you have the stock bumper on your 2006 Jeep TJ and you have a Blue Ox Tow Bar then you will want to install the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1120 which is compatible with Blue Ox Adventurer # BX7322, Avail # BX7420, Alpha # BX7380 and Allure # BX7460P tow bars. This option does not have the removable arms, but it does keep you from having to install an adapter so that it is compatible with your Blue Ox Tow Bar.

Since most RVs have a 7-Way connector at the rear bumper I recommend installing the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 for the lighting on your TJ. This will give you a connector that is already compatible with your RV (provided your RV already has a 7-Way) and features a coiled wire for quick connecting and disconnecting. The coiled design keeps the wiring flexible but off the ground at the same time. Since you have a Supplemental Braking System you will need to install the Brake Light Relay # RM-88400 as well.

To run power to your Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR you will simply need to install the 12 Volt Outlet Kit # RM-9332 so that it can pull power from your Jeep's battery.

Keep in mind that you will also need Safety Cables, and possibly a High-Low Adapter to complete your flat towing setup if you do not already have them.

I recommend the RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643 which are rated for 6,000 lbs for Safety Cables.

To determine the correct High-Low Adapter for your setup I have attached a helpful article as well as our selection of Adapters for you to choose from.

I have attached some sample installation videos on other Jeeps that you can use as a reference. You will want to be sure to check your owner's manual for any special instructions on flat towing as well.
