Draw Tite Gooseneck/5th Wheel Connector # 20027 Recommendation on a 1997 Chevy C/K Series Pickup

Hello etrailer I Recently Purchased the tekonsha p3 brake controller and the etbc7 kit from you and have a question about wiring in an additional 7-way plug up in the truck bed. I will be installing the hopkins 4-pole to 7-pole and 4-pole part number 37185 out of the etbc 7 kit on the receiver hitch. I also purchased Pollak Metal 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Socket - Vehicle End part #PK12703, and Jacketed 7 Wire - per foot part# 127C500-1, so I can have an additional 7-way plug up in the bed of the truck for my gooseneck trailer. The truck only has the 4-pole female connector factory installed at the rear by the receiver hitch. The only way I can see to accomplish connecting all these wires from both seven-way plugs is to install one of these trailer wiring junction boxes part #38656. Without the box I am going to have a boatload of connections to make in order to splice all these wires together. In addition to that, all the wires to be spliced together are all different sizes, some are 10 gauge included in etbc7 kit, some 14 gauge found in jacketed 7 wire, and some 16 gauge found on 4-way plug coming out of hopkins 7-pole to 4-pole making it very challenging to connect these wires together. First question, is there some other easier way to connect all this wiring besides using this box, and what would your recommendation be to accomplish this task? Second question, if you recommend using the box, will I run into any problems installing this box under the truck near the receiver hitch? I looked up the dimensions of the box and have located a spot that will allow relatively easy installation of the box, and that allows good access for running wires into the box. Third question, will this box hold up to road moisture? I shouldnt ever have the box submerged in water as I will be installing it right up close to the bottom of the bed, but will it sufficiently keep road moisture out? The absolute easiest way to accomplish this task would be to use a Draw-Tite Wiring Adapter, part # 20027. You would simply plug this into the 7-way that is at the rear of you 1997 Chevy Silverado and then run the 7-way end up to the bed and mount it in a location that is easily accessible for your gooseneck.

You will probably want to use some zip-ties to secure it in such a way that it will be accessible when not in use and not drag on the ground.

You could make the Trailer Wiring Junction Box, part # 38656, work, but if it were me I would probably just use the # 20027 as it would make the whole process much simpler and cut the installation time way down. If you really wanted to go this route you could definitely make it work though.

The # 38656 should have no problem handling road moisture and should work well for you in that regard. Especially since you said that you would never submerge this box in water.
