Recommendation for Largest Cargo Box that Will Fit a 2012 Dodge Durango Factory Roof Rack

Hi, I am interested in the skybox 21, and need as much space as possible for our family of 6. Will this box fit on top of the durango? We have factory bars. Going by the measurement of 57 inches back from the front bar, it extends beyond the hinge on the rear hatch by 5 inches actual measurement is 52. I didnt know if the way the box tapers upward it would give more clearance. Thanks!

The Yakima SkyBox 21, # Y07337, is a fit for the factory roof rack on your 2012 Dodge Durango. To determine if there will be any clearance issues with the rear hatch when open there is one measurement that is needed.

You mentioned that you have a 52 inch bar to hatch measurement. But if the factory bars are adjustable on your Durango move the front bar as far forward as it will go. Next open the hatch. Then measure from the center of the front bar so the closest part of the open hatch. If that distance is greater than 57 inches there will not be hatch interference.

If 52 inches is the maximum then that largest box that will fit without hatch interference will be the Thule Hyper XL, # Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Box - 18 cu ft # TH629806.
