Before loading the roof rack with a cargo box, you'll want to verify your roof capacity in your owner's manual. According to my research, the 2016 Toyota 4Runner has a roof capacity of 120lbs. This weight will need to include the weight of the roof rack, plus the cargo box.

For cargo boxes, you'll want to measure the distance from the center of where your front cross bar will sit to the point where your rear hatch meets your roof. This will give you the maximum length of your cargo box can be from its front clamps to its furthest rear edge in order to not block your hatch from opening. This distance varies from box to box.
