How to Determine the Correct Sidewinder Pin Box for a 1989 Alpenlite 5th Wheel Trailer
Question:
We have a 1989 Alpenlite fifth wheel and I cannot find any indicator of who manufactured the pin box. All that is stamped on it is the VIN number. The manufacturer went out of business so I cannot contact them either.

Since you cannot verify the exact pin box model on your fifth-wheel trailer, you will need to measure to determine the correct fit for a Sidewinder King Pin with Rotating Turret. I've attached our help guide article for identifying your pin box.
I have posted a drawing at right that shows the measurements that will need to be made. We will also need to know the gross weight of your trailer loaded and ready to tow so that we can select the proper capacity pin box replacement for your trailer.
Finally, you will need to determine if your trailer can be used with a Sidewinder fifth-wheel pin box. A qualified RV dealer should be able to look at the trailer framing and tell you if it needs to be reinforced for use of a Sidewinder.
Most likely your pin box will work with the # RP61412 that you mentioned or with the # RP34FR Sidewinder pin box, and I have listed the mounting dimensions on the drawing I mentioned above.
