Swagman Platform Style 2-Bike Rack for Use on Class C RV

Question:

Sent an earlier question but have another You did not mention the Swagman 64683 Black Chinook 2-Bike Frame Key Lock Hook Hitch RV Rack as one of your RV bike racks. Why not? Would you recommend this as a good 2 bike hitch mount rack for a 23foot C class RV? Thanks

The Swagman Chinook 2-Bike Platform Rack # S64683 is not rated for use on the rear of a trailer or other RV. They are great products but are designed for use only on standard passenger vehicles.

Bike racks made for use on an RV are built with the extra strength required to handle the stresses found at the rear of such vehicles. Because the distance between the rear axle and the actual bike rack load is greater on an RV than on a passenger car, there will be more lateral and vertical forces working on the rack. Standard car racks would potentially not hold up if used on the rear of a Class C RV for instance, or on the back of a 5th wheel trailer.

You need to choose one of the RV-rated bike carriers such as the Swagman Dispatch platform carrier # S44FR for your Class C. This rack includes locks for the rack and for your two bikes. This rack offers the benefits of 6-inches of rise in the shank for better ground clearance and a substantial 45-lbs-per-bike weight rating. All RV-rated racks are shown on the linked page.
