Any proportional type trailer brake controller, including the Tekonsha Voyager # 39510, needs to be correctly oriented in order to operate properly. The Voyager must be mounted on a level horizontal (side-to-side) plane and must be lined up with the direction of travel for the internal sensor to function properly. Please refer to the linked diagram that shows correct positioning.
The voyager has two controls you can adjust, a power control and a sensitivity control. Both need to be adjusted based on the trailer weight. If the trailer's weight tends to vary then you might be better off with the Prodigy P3 # 90195 which has less restrictive installation requirements and which allows you to store pre-determined power settings.
Since you tow two different trailers the P3 will really make life easier for you. Once you find your preferred settings for each trailer you can save them for instant recall. The P3 can use the same wiring harness # 3020-P that is used by the Voyager. Please refer to the linked installation video for more on the P3.
