Details on the Ratcheting Hooks, Hitch Adapter, and Lock Option for the Swagman XC2 Bike Rack

Question:

2014 Kia Sedona with 2 inch receiver. Based on current long-range use of an older different brand of hitch mount 2 bicycle carrier, I have the following questions/concerns: 1 Will the ratcheting mechanism cure my non-ratcheting hold-down-clamp friction hand screw working loose on long trips? 2 Will the 2 inch hitch adapter stay locked in place when hitch is dismounted and re-mounted or will I have to adjust the sliding adapter each time? 3 What type of padlock will the hitch pin/screw use to safeguard thieves during parking while on a bike ride? Thank you.

Excellent questions. First, absolutely the ratcheting feature of the hooks on the Swagman XC bike rack # S64650 will stay firmly in place and not back out no matter how long or short the trip.

The 1-1/4 to 2 inch adapter included with the rack screws onto the bike rack shank so you won't have to worry about losing it or doing anything else with it really.

To lock the rack to the hitch you will not use a pad lock. Instead you will need the Locking Anti-Rattle, Threaded Hitch Pin for Swagman Hitch Racks # S64029. It was designed specifically for Swagman bike racks.

I am not sure what kind of rack you had before but it sounds like it was a bit of a dud. I think if you go with the XC2 you will absolutely love it by comparison! I have linked videos on the lock and the bike rack for you.
