There are several possible causes that could lead to the Voyager Brake Controller, # 39510, not working properly. First, use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test the voltage on the red wire at the back of the brake controller. It should show a signal when you step on the brakes. If it does not, then you know you need to make a better connection to the brake light switch.
If it does show a signal, it could mean that the brake controller itself is no longer mounted level. This can happen easily if the brake controller is bumped. You would just need to level it again according to the installation instructions which I have linked for reference.
The stop light fuse could be blown. Check the owners manual to determine where this fuse is located on the tow vehicle. If it is blown, replace it and then see if the brake controller works as it should.
You can also check the vehicle and trailer side connectors for any dirt or corrosion which could cause problems. Also make sure the ground connections are intact and connected to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces.
Finally, it could be the trailer brakes. If the magnets show wear it could be that they are no longer working properly and replacing them could fix the problem. The brake magnets also need a good ground to function correctly. You can also test the magnets with a multi-meter to determine if they are providing the correct voltage.
