Which Roof Location Offers the Least Wind Resistance When Installing Yakima Roof Cargo Box # Y07195

Question:

What is the best location to put my Yakima cargo with least amount of wind resistance, i.e. forward, back, middle of van roof?

Expert Reply:

For the least amount of wind resistance, I would recommend installing a roof cargo box towards the rear of the vehicle. The only problem with moving the cargo box towards the rear on a minivan is you will want to make sure that the cargo box will not get in the way of the rear hatch when it is opened. So you will need to attach the cargo box to your crossbars and adjust the location on your roof by moving the cargo box forwards or backwards to the best location on your vehicle, before tightening down.

Usually if you end up centering the cargo box on the vehicles roof, that will give you the best location and with the cargo boxes being aerodynamically designed the wind resistance is not really a problem.
