To add a 7-way trailer connector to your 2017 Toyota Highlander, I recommend using the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires # ETBC7. This will allow you to use your current 4-way and will add the other functions to give you connections for both 4-way and 7-way trailers. This kit includes all the wiring, connectors, and the circuit breakers you need. Then you just need to add a brake controller.
For your brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. This is a proportional controller meaning the trailer brakes will be applied to your trailer at the same time and with the same intensity as you hit the brake pedal in your Highlander. This brake controller has a really nice LCD screen that allows you the convenience of diagnostics and function at a quick glance. There is no code deciphering like other controllers. It is easy to use and has 3 levels of boost as well as other adjustability to customize your driving experience.
With the # ETBC7 And the # 90195, you will have a complete towing system.
