Troubleshooting a Mis-Wired Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller # 39510
Question:
Hello. I just wired up my brake controller and it stays red when hooked up. When I hit the brakes it goes to green? I hooked the brake controller up on a power supply before I installed it to test it and when the ground and power were hooked up I got my green light on. Can you help? Thank you very much for your help.

It sounds like you may have mis-wired your Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller, part # 39510, to your vehicle.
I would check the wiring on the stoplight circuit for the # 39510. It sounds like you may have accidentally wired the 12 volt power source to the stoplight circuit (red wire) of the brake controller and possibly wired the brake switch wire of your vehicle to the power wire (black wire) of the brake controller.
It may be helpful to have a circuit tester, part # PTW2993, when you are trying to wire your brake controller correctly.
I also attached an FAQ article on brake controllers below and diagram of how brake controllers wire to vehicles to the right.
