Does Gooseneck Hitch have to be Removed to Install a 5th Wheel Hitch in a 2012 Ram 2500

Question:

I am transitioning from a 2006 Dodge 1500 SB to a 2012 Ram 2500 Mega 4X4 SB with a flip over gooseneck. Will my current mounting hardware and rails work on my new Ram? And will I need to remove the flipover gooseneck mount that is on the 2012 Ram to be able to do the install? thanks for your help.

Since your new 2012 Ram 2500 already has a gooseneck trailer hitch installed a 5th wheel installation kit cannot be installed with it. The gooseneck hitch would have to be removed first. If you tow both types of trailers then there may be other options if you can tell me the manufacturer of the gooseneck hitch. Otherwise, if you are only towing 5th wheel trailers the best solution is to remove the gooseneck hitch.

With the gooseneck hitch removed you can then install Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches Item # RP50140-58 since the old kit won't fit the new truck.
