Trailer brake controllers that are to be used with a trailer that has electric-over-hydraulic (EOH) disc brakes must have that particular operating mode selected. Not all brake controllers work with EOH set-ups; many work only with electric drum brakes. If your factory controller is set to the correct operating mode for your EOH-disc trailer but does not activate the brakes, you can test to find the issue.

Start at the truck 7-way connector and apply a tester like # PTW2993 to the pin for the brake circuit, as shown in the linked photo. The ground and brake pins are at the bottom of the 7-way socket. If you detect brake controller output here when you press the manual override, then you know the truck/controller are okay and that the issue is on the trailer. If you do not get a signal at the 7-way, then check that the controller is in EOH operating mode and that you have maximum power selected when you test.

If you get no signal at the 7-way, then move to the controller blue output wire which should be accessible under the dash. Test this wire in the same way; if there is no signal there then the controller could be damaged and can be replaced with a quality aftermarket unit like the P2 # 90885.

If you do have brake power at the 7-way, then troubleshoot the trailer wiring looking for worn or cracked insulation anywhere on the brake circuit wire. If you can hear the EOH actuator's pump working, then you may need to check the hydraulic fluid level and you can also check that there are no leaks. The system could also need to be bled to remove air bubbles from the lines.
