Is Spindle Washer Needed On Reliable Torsion Axle?
Question:
I have a 2000 # Reliable torsion axle with sure lube hubs. When I removed the hubs to replace the bearings I noticed that there was no spindle flat washer between the nut and bearings on either hubs. My thought was that due to the way the Sure Lube hubs works that using a spindle washer might prevent grease from entering the outer bearings internal roller bearings. Should there be a spindle washer or is one not necessary for the Reliable Sure Lube hubs? Any information would be appreciated.

Expert Reply:
Many smaller spindles do not require a washer. You can add one if you desire, but many spindles like the 2,000 lb Dexter axles do not come with a washer and don't require it. If you want to add a washer like # SW1000 it will not negatively effect the assembly or spindle as long as you have the room for the threaded nut to be secured.
