Supplementary Transmission Cooler to Aid Factory Transmission Cooler in 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan

Question:

Based on the installation video of your 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.6L engine, my understanding is this vehicle the 2012-2017 Grand Caravan is already equipped with a factory transmission cooler which is apparently located into the upper part of the radiator. Am I right? So adding part # D13503 to the vehicle, you get a larger cooling area for the transmission coolant, so itll be more efficient that the factory transmission cooler. Correct?

Expert Reply:

A supplementary transmission cooler like Derale # D13503 or one of the others we offer for your 3.6L 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan, all shown on the linked page, are intended to provide additional transmission cooling to supplement the factory-installed cooler that is inside the radiator. These coolers install downstream of that factory cooler and further reduce the transmission fluid temperature. Since transmission fluid cannot really be over-cooled this means less stress on the transmission.

You are correct that the larger a supplemental cooler is the more efficient its cooling capability. You can install as physically large a cooler as will fit in front of the AC condenser. The supplemental cooler installs on the return line from the primary cooler and further reduces the fluid temperature after initial cooling in the OEM unit.
