How To Tell If 2016 Toyota Highlander Has Factory Tow Package Wiring

Wiring harness for Toyota 2016 Highlander. How do I tell if my vehicle has a wiring converter on it?

I cannot say for sure how you can tell whether or not you have the converter on your Highlander but I can help you out with the trailer harness installation. The only sure way to tell which harness you need is to check out what wiring you have in the rear cargo area.
If you watch the attached videos you can see where the installation differs. If you remove the back tray in the rear cargo area of your Highlander you can see if there are two connectors, one being bigger than the other. If both connectors are present your Highlander does not have the tow package and you will need part # C56217. This harness will use both connectors.
If you have the tow package, the connection point can be found behind a trim panel on the driver side in the rear cargo area. for that installation you will need part # 56042.
I have also attached the installation instructions for each of these harness you can check out.

I bought the 56042 because my mechanic told me that was all I needed, but I actually needed the c56217, if I buy that I will then have two parts that are the 56042, can I just buy the other part in the c56217? Thanks
