Adapter Bar for Womans Bike Carried on Yakima LongHaul 4 Bike Hanging Style Rack

Question:

Curious how one mounts a ladies bike, or one with non-standard top bar to this bike rack.

Expert Reply:

When a bike does not have a horizontal top frame tube (as is found on a typical boy's bike) an adapter bar such as # UB01 can provide a handy way to mount such a bike on a standard hanging style bike carrier that uses two arms to hold the bike, such as the Yakima LongHaul 4 Bike Rack that you referenced, part # Y02476.

The Longhaul's arms are spaced closer together than on many racks, and this can reduce the need for adapter bars, but some bikes, especially kids' bikes, may still benefit from using one if the frame design does not allow for a secure fit on the arms.

Adapter bars connect between the handlebar stem and seat post and provide a horizontal mounting surface to mate with the rack arms, as shown in the linked video.
