Recommendation to Transport 2 Bikes Using Class I Trailer Hitch on 2014 Mazda 3 Hatchback

Question:

Im looking for a two bike hitch mounted bike rack for my Mazda 3 hatchback with a Class 1 hitch 1 1/4. Id like one that tilts so I can easily access the hatch. Id like to be able to carry a wide variety of bikes from 16inch wheel childrens bikes to 20inch BMX and 26inch mountain bikes. Ideally Id like to keep the cost under $200. What would be your top recommendations? Thanks

To transport 2 bikes of various sizes with the Class I trailer hitch on your 2014 Mazda 3, I recommend looking at the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider # HR200Z. This platform style carrier is compatible with Class I hitch receivers and can hold up to 2 bikes at 45 pounds each. It features adjustable wheel mounts that will accept a variety of wheel sizes and wheelbases. It can support a maximum wheelbase of 60 inches and tire widths up to 3 inches. The upright mast on the carrier can be tilted with the bikes unloaded for easy rear cargo access. I recommend adding the Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock and Cable Lock # HRLHPTC to secure the rack to your Mazda 3 and your bikes to the rack.

I have attached a video demonstration on this bike rack for you to check out.

For a more cost-efficient option, I recommend looking at the Swagman Trailhead 2 Bike Rack # S63360. This is a hanging-style rack that can hold 2 bikes at 35 pounds each. This carrier features anti-sway cradles that will secure the bikes to the rack and it can also be tilted forward for rear cargo access. A cable lock # CAB-10 and hitch lock # S64029 can be added to help deter theft of your valuables.

With this hanging-style carrier, it may be necessary to use an adapter bar like the Kuat # UB01 if you plan on carrying any children's, woman's or alternative frame bikes. This will provide a horizontal attachment point for level transport and improved ground clearance. I have attached a video demonstration on this product so you can see exactly how it works and why it might be needed.
