Where To Install Temperature Sensor When Installing Derale Transmission Cooler On A 1989 Ford F-250
Question:
Hi, I placed an order on Fri for a Derale trans cooler #13504 per your recommendations and also the premium remote trans filter #13091. The premium filter kit has a port for the temp sensor in the housing which eliminates me having to drill a hole in my pan. I was going to order the drain plug kit. So my question is when you guys install the remote filter setups with the temp sensor where do you put it. It occurred to me that if I install it on the pressure line before it hits the radiator I am going to get the reading at its hottest point which really tells the story or if I put it after it leaves the Derale I will get a reading after its been cooled which may lead to a false sense of security. Back to the drain plug for a moment....the plug has a spot for the sensor to screw into which gives the oil in the pan a reading. Would that be better????? Your advice and successes in this install is appreciated. This set up is going on a 1989 f250 460f/i with a c6 trans. Thanks for taking the time to answer all of your customers questions and I appreciate the great prices, great service and fast deliveries.

When installing the Derale Remote Transmission Filter Kit w/ Temperature Gauge, part # D13091, to your vehicle the temperature sensor is connected to a port on the remote filter mount. This is going to give you a transmission fluid temperature reading coming out of the transmission and at its highest temperature. If the temperature sensor is installed on the transmission pan the temperature reading is when the fluid has been cooled so it will not be at the highest temperature.
I spoke with my contact at Derale to get their opinion and they said that they would prefer the temperature sensor on the remote filter mount to get the highest temperature reading. They did say that it depends what the customer prefers, but they would recommend to install the temperature sensor in the remote filter mount and get the temperature reading when it is coming out of the transmission, before it is cooled.
