Installing an Electric Trailer Brake Controller on a 2011 Ford Escape with Factory Tow Package
Question:
I read the answer from the previous guy with a new controller he wanted to install on his 2011 Escape. You referred him to a tutorial link that I couldnt find. I have my own ideas on how to wire itmine has the tow package, but i would appreciate any advice from experts. Thanks

I believe I have found the question to which you are referring. Basically, the Ford escape has been a hardwire only model in terms of installing a brake controller. This would mean that it does not come with a port or factory harness for a brake controller. Instead, you would first need to install a 4-Way trailer connector if the vehicle does not already have one.
For an Escape with a tow package, you would use Draw-Tite Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118251. With a 4-Way installed, you would then need to add a 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. This kit provides a 7-Way and 4-Way at the rear of the vehicle along with the wiring and circuit breakers needed to install a brake controller. I have included links to 2 FAQ articles on installing a brake controller from scratch, along with a video showing the installation of an ETBC7 kit.
For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, # 90885, because it is easy to set up and easy to use. I have included a link to the installation instructions for it as well.
