What Size Trailer Can Be Towed With The Draw-Tite Hitch # C12051 On A 2008 Chevrolet Malibu
Question:
We are moving and own a 2008 Malibu. Will this vehicle w/proper hitch tow a U-haul trailer? If so what size trailer would be max?

The Curt Class II 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # C12051, will fit a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu. It is a 1-1/4 inch hitch with a gross towing weight capacity of 3500 lbs. The 2008 Malibu will only have a towing capacity of 1000 lbs. So the vehicles towing capacity is what will limit you to how much you can tow. A towing systems capacity is limited by the lowest capacity in the whole system, in your case it is the vehicle at 1000 lbs.
I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Curt hitch.
For towing you will also need the following parts :
Draw-Tite Ball Mount, part # C45522 and Pin and clip # F-4,Tow Ready 2 Inch Hitch Ball, part # 19258, or Tow Ready 1-7/8 Inch Hitch Ball, part # 19256
For the wiring harness on your 2008 Chevrolet Malibu you can use the Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, part # 118450, unless you have the LTZ model. The Malibu LTZ has LED taillights and will need the Tow Ready Wiring Harness, part # 119147KIT, to power the trailer lights directly from the battery and protect the sensitive wiring circuit on the LTZ model.
I am including a link to the installation instructions on the wiring harness # C59496, and a video link to the wiring harness # 118450 being installed on a Buick Enclave. The vehicle is different but the wiring principle will be the same.
