Replacement Mounting Hardware for Thule Hull-a-Port Kayak Carrier
Question:
I have the Hull-a-port Aero 838 kayak rack made by Thule. The mounting kit that came with it has a flip fit mechanism to attach the kayak rack to the roof rack. I was wondering if I could use the Mounting Kit for Thule Flat Top Rooftop Ski and Snowboard Racks to replace that part. The problem is that one end of the mounting bracket is a full circle that the screw goes through and the other side is 3/4 of a circle so the screw can come lose. My kayaks have come lose on my car and Im trying to fix the issue. Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

I understand your concern about your Thule Hull-A-Port Kayak Carrier # TH834 coming loose from your vehicle roof rack crossbars but I cannot recommend using any alternate hardware (such as that from another Thule carrier).
What I suggest you do is apply a thread lock compound like Loctite # LT37643 to the hardware's threads. This should prevent the knobs from coming loose on their own but still allow you to remove the carrier if you wish.
If you still have an issue then I suggest using new hardware. We offer bracket # 853-5513, knob # 753-0783 and carriage bolt # 915-0660-31.
