Why Is Fifth Wheel Truck Bed 7-Way Wiring Installed on Driver Side
Question:
I had a wiring harness installed on a truck in the past and they put it on the drivers side as you suggest. Using the theory behind strapping down a load on a flat bed where the ratchet is on the passenger side in order that in case a road side adjustment is needed you are away from traffic and off the shoulder. Why is the same idea not used for the wiring harness and place it on the passenger side?

That's a valid question, but I'd say the main reason that same "keep everything on the passenger side" philosophy isn't applied to truck bed fifth wheel wiring is that you could climb into the truck bed from the passenger side and get to the wiring without having to be on the traffic side if you were on the highway.
Yet if you weren't on the highway and wanted to quickly access the wiring while hitching up you wouldn't have to run to the other side of the truck.
