Replacing OEM Brake Controller on 2016 Toyota Tundra With Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195
Question:
I have a 2016 Toyota Tundra. They come standard with a trailer brake controller but will not acticate the trailer brakes at full gain. Only the munual slider works with the trailer brakes. Can you unhook it and replace it with a Tekosna P-3? What is required to install it?

Helpful Expert Reply:
Since your 2016 Toyota Tundra already has the factory 7-Way and wiring installed, replacing your OEM brake controller with the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 will be a breeze.
All you will need to do is choose where you would like to mount the bracket for the P3 and then use the Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3031-P and connect it to the connector under your driver's side dash. Since you have an OEM controller installed it will be the connector that is installed on that. I have attached a video of the P3 being installed on a 2013 Tundra for you to follow. The wiring adapter did change from the one in the video but the concept is the same.
