Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander for Towing Quicksilver Trailer
Question:
Hi, we are looking to get a 10.0 quicksilver trailer to pull cross country with our 2wd cvt 2008 v6 outlander rated to pull 1500lb. The trailer weight is 1050 unloaded 1500gvwr with a hitch weight of 170lb. Our dog travels in the cargo area of the Outlander, and she plus her bed is about 90lb. Everything else is packed into the middle area or in a box on the roof rack. We have never towed before and want to make sure we are safe. What hitch would you recommend? Not sure yet if trailer has surge brakes/if we could upgrade to electric.

The Curt hitch part # 13581 would be a great option for your 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander as it is a confirmed fit and has great towing capacities at 4,000 lbs total trailer weight and 400 lbs tongue weight. I did some research on your vehicle though and it has a capacity range of 1,500 to 3,500 lbs depending on how it is equipped so you will need to check the owner's manual of your vehicle to verify what the capacity is and go by it as the overall capacity.
For trailer wiring you then would want the # 118518 which is a confirmed fit.
If you wanted to do some towing, you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
