Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness For 2007 Ford Ranger
Question:
I have a 2007 Ford Ranger with a 4 pin for my trailer lights. However, I just got a tear trailer and it comes with a round, 7 pin female end. What part do I need? Thank you

If the trailer you are towing has brakes you will need a brake controller for your Ranger along with the 7-way trailer connector.
If you need a brake controller I recommend part # 90195. This is a proportional brake controller that applies the brakes on the trailer in direct proportion to the brake action in the tow vehicle.
The wiring harness I recommend for you is part # ETBC7. This plugs into the 4-way on your truck, and has additional wiring for the 7-way. I have attached a drawing that shows how the wiring is run when installing a brake controller and the # ETBC7.
If you do not have brakes on the trailer and are not installing a brake controller you can cap the wires that are not needed.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
