For your 1997 Ford F-250 with 6.5 foot bed, I recommend the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - 10 Bolt # RP30035 along with the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Slider - Dual Jaw - 16,000 lbs # C16521. This hitch has the round tube slider which is far less likely to have a binding issue. It has a head that pivots 4 ways to ease hookup.
You may also want to consider putting a second 7-way in the bed of your truck using the 7-Way Pre-Wired Pigtail Connector, 7' Lead # 20024. This will allow easier accessibility and connection.
