Brake Controller and Install Wiring Recommendation for 2008 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
Question:
I need to install a brake controller on my 2008 Sport Trac V8 4x4 and was looking at item numbers, 90195,3035-P. I see on this item number it says with factory 7 way. My truck does not have a factory 7 way, it has the 4 flat adapter at the bumper. Will the plug adapter provided with these part numbers work on my truck if I wire a 7 way at the back? I looked at the plug adapter under the dash to the left of the steering wheel, it has four male posts and two female.

Test the pins of the connector you found with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. If you find that one of the pins has voltage when the brakes are applied and the other is hot all the time the # 3035-P will fit and work well. The blue wire would need to be ran back to the blue wire of the adapter part # 37185 to complete the circuit there though.
If there isn't voltage there then you would need to instead use the part # ETBC7 which converts the 4-way to a 7-way and comes with all of the wiring needed to install the controller.
