Troubleshooting Factory Trailer Wiring Harness on 2012 Ford Escape
Question:
All was working until a friend of mine plugged in to my harness to check lights. When I found out I tested my trailer and had running lights working for only a moment I checked and changed 15 amp fuse in engine compartment and tested all three relays as well. I now have no power to harness and yes tested with ground attached to body / chassis of truck any suggestions help? Can this be an overloaded situation?

If you're getting no power at the trailer connector and you've checked all of the fuses the you'll want to test the pins where the wiring harness plugs into the Ford Escape's wiring. This will be under the rear bumper on the driver's side. Follow the wiring from the trailer connector. Once you find this connection unplug it and test the vehicle side.
Test and inspect the pins and make sure none are bent or corroded. You'll also want to check the pins on the harness.
If everything tests fine on the vehicle side then the issue is with the harness and it may need to be replaced. Our replacement 4-way connector for your 2012 Ford Escape is # 118251 unless you have the backup sensors. If you do then use # 118551
