Coupler is Difficult to Get On and Off of the Ball on an Equal-I-Zer Weight Distribution System
Question:
I bought the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW from you in October 2015. It works great and I have no problem with how the hitch performs. The only issue I have is how is locking and unlocking my trailer to the ball. It is getting increasingly harder to lock and unlock my trailer from the ball. I dont know if from your experience you might have some tips for me. Would going down about 1/8inch in ball size work or be safe? Ive never had this problem with other trailers or hitches. Im pulling a 2015 Primetime Avenger 26BH. Its about 5800 pounds. Thanks for any advice

Only 2 inch and 2-5/16 inch balls are used for weight distribution. So if you are currently using a 2 inch ball you cannot go down to a 1-7/8 inch ball because the smaller size is inadequate for use with weight distribution. Also the coupler requires a certain ball size so using a ball that is too small can cause the trailer coupler to pop off of the ball when traveling.
There are a few reasons why a coupler can be difficult to unlatch from a ball. If there is tension on the ball then it is difficult to release the coupler. Moving the trailer forward or back slightly to relieve the tension usually does the trick.
Another possibility is that the coupler needs to be lubricated. You can use automotive oil to lubricate the moving parts of the coupler. Also you can grease the ball with # 58117 which will reduce friction and make it easier for the coupler to release from the ball.
