Recommended Hitch-Mounted Bike Rack for 3 Beach Cruisers on 2014 Ford Escape
Question:
What kind of trailer hitch bike rack would you recommend for a Ford Escape 2014 to carry 2-3 beach cruisers that have wide handle bars and fat tires

Expert Reply:
To transport your 2-3 Beach Cruisers with Fat Tires on your 2014 Ford Escape, I recommend the Kuat Transfer 3 Bike Platform Rack # KU24FR that is compatible with Class II and larger trailer hitches. This is a great platform rack that will make loading and securing your Cruisers much easier when compared to a hanging rack. Because the bikes will be supported by their wheels, you will not need to worry about keeping the alternative frames of the Cruisers level during transport. This rack features a nice spring-loaded foot pedal that will let you fold the rack away from your Ford Escape with the bikes still loaded for easy rear cargo access. It has a weight capacity of 40 pounds per bike and a maximum wheel base of 50 inches.
You will just add a Phat Bike Adapter Kit # APBK to allow compatibility with the fat tires on each of your bikes. This will allow the carrier to hold tires of up to 4.8 inches wide.
I have attached a couple of video reviews of these products for you to check out.
