Towing Capacity of 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe and Recommended Suspension Enhancement
Question:
What is the towing capacity for a 2007 Santa Fe SUV? What are some of the best light weight camper trailers that a 2007 Santa Fe can pull over a long period of time 6mos traveling? Can airbags be added to the Santa Fe suspension to help with towing or should it be added to the camper trailers suspension? Thanks

I checked the owner's manual for your 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe and there are a few towing capacities listed, depending on your vehicle's engine size and whether or not it has a factory trailer package. If your Santa Fe does not have the trailer package, the listed maximum towable weight is 2,000 pounds. If you have the trailer package, the maximum trailer weight for a 2.7L engine is 2,800 pounds and for a 3.3L engine it is 3,500 pounds. I recommend checking with your owner's manual to confirm the towing capacity of your vehicle.
For suspension enhancement on your Hyundai Santa Fe, I recommend the Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs # F4170, which are confirmed to fit your vehicle and will help to provide extra support for your existing rear coil springs. They will work to keep your vehicle level, improve steering control and reduce tire wear when carrying heavy loads or pulling a trailer. These have a load-leveling capacity of 1,000 pounds and an adjustable air pressure of 5 to 35 psi, depending on the load. I have attached an installation video on a 2015 Santa Fe for you to look at.
Your camper should not need additional suspension enhancement unless you feel that the ride could be improved after some test runs.
As for lightweight campers that will work well with your Santa Fe, this will ultimately be up to you and your personal preference. The most important factor will just be staying below your vehicle's towing weight capacity, remembering to factor in the weight of the camper once it is fully loaded with all of your gear. From my experience, Keystone and Forest River tend to have some of the highest rated, lightweight camper trailers available.
