Parts Needed To Flat-Tow 1995 Jeep Wrangler Economically
Question:
I want to know a list of everything I need to purchase in order to tow a 1995 Jeep Wrangler tow bar, base plates?, adapters?, light kits?. I want to get out as inexpensively as possible. I will tow the Jeep approximately 50 miles, 3 or 4 times a year over flat terrain.

To flat-tow your 1995 Jeep Wrangler, you will need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, vehicle wiring or lights, and a supplemental braking system.
The base plate kit I would recommend for your Jeep is the Roadmaster Classic Base Plate Kit, part # 1409-3, which will fit only the U-Channel Bumper, which your Jeep should have.
For an economical tow bar, you could use the Tow Ready Adjustable Tow Bar, part # 63180, if the 45 mile per hour limitation is will work for you. To connect the Tow Ready Tow Bar to your base plates, you will need to use Tow Bar Adapter, part # RM-025. Tow Bar # 63180 does not have telescoping non-binding arms, a tow bar with non-binding arms allows for easier hookup and disconnecting. A tow bar with non-binding arms that I would recommend is the RoadMaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar, part # RM-520.
Next, you will need safety cables. I would recommend the Roadmaster 68 Inch Coiled Safety Cables, part # RM-643, to keep your vehicle attached to your RV in the event that your tow bar were to become disconnected from your hitch.
Since you will not be flat-towing your Jeep often, I would recommend the Magnetic Towing Light Kit, part # C-ATL20A. Another option would be the Tail Light Isolating Diode System, part # 38955, which would spice into your vehicles tail light circuit and plug into 4-way on your RV. Both part # C-ATL20A and part # 38955 are comparable in cost.
Most states require that you use a supplemental braking system when flat-towing a vehicle. I would recommend the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Proportional Braking System, part # RM-9400. The Even Brake System will help you slow down and reduce the wear on the brakes of your motor home.
Before flat-towing your Jeep, you will want to check your vehicles owners manual or your Jeep dealer for specific steps needed to take before towing. Some vehicles must be equipped with a transmission lube pump, axle disconnect, or free-wheeling hubs before they can be towed.
I have linked instructions for the Tow Ready Adjustable Tow Bar, part # 63180. Also linked is a video installation of the Tail Light Isolating Diode System, part # 38955, to use as a reference.
