Recommended Wiring For A Trailer With Brakes For A 2011 GMC Acadia

Question:

I have a 2011 acadia awd that does not have factory tow package. I installed a curt receiver but I am unsure on the wiring. I will be towing a small camper with electric brakes. I know that I will need the brake controller and harness but all the wiring harness I see for the hitch are for 4 flat. Will this work for a trailer with 7 pin connector on it and electric brakes. Is there a 4 flat to 7 round adapter. Thanks

For your 2011 GMC Acadia, I recommend you start with the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118451. This will give you a 4-way flat as you mentioned. Then you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. This kit will give you the wire, connectors, and circuit breakers you need to connect a brake controller to a 7-way for a trailer with brakes.

For your brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # 90195. This controller has a really easy to understand LCD screen that takes code deciphering out of the equation. It is customizable and has 3 levels of boost. The constant diagnostics let you know in real time what is happening with just a glance.
