What Lighted Steps Are Available For A 2003 Toyota Tacoma And How Are They Wired

Question:

Hi, Im considering either a set of tube steps or running boards for my 03 Tacoma. From your listings it seems that the lighted steps are less expensive than the unlighted steps. Why is that? Can you tell me how complicated it is to connect the step lights to the trucks lighting system? Thanks for your help

If your 2003 Toyota Tacoma is a Xtra Cab 4WD 2 Dr. you can use the Westin Molded Lighted Step Boards with Custom Install Kit, part # 27-0005-1085. If your vehicle is the 2003 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab you can use the Westin Molded Lighted Step Boards with Custom Install Kit, part # 27-0015-1605.

There are some non-lighted steps or boards that are cheaper than the lighted steps or boards and some higher quality non-lighted steps or boards that are more expensive. It seems to vary it just depends on the manufacturer and the finish of the steps or boards.

To install lighted steps you will need to connect the lights to the vehicles electrical system. Locate a pass-through point for the wire harness, like under the carpet at the driver side door sill. Locate the main wire lead to the dome light and connect the positive wire from the steps to the main wire lead and ground the remaining wire. You will want to make sure to find the main wire lead to the dome light when making your connection, because if it is not the main wire lead the lights will only work when one door is open.

I am including links to the installation instructions on the lighted steps. It will describe how to wire them to your vehicle and include a wiring diagram.
