Is it Possible to Tow a Small Trailer Behind a 27 Foot Toy Hauler

Question:

I have a 2017 Rockwood ultra lite 2440 WS 27 ft and I am wanting to tow a 12ft trailer with a 1500# Kawasaki tyrex 4 behind it. It has a iframe and it is 71 inches so this hitch should fit. Is it a heavy enough hitch to pull my toy and trailer?

We do offer trailer hitches that could be mounted to the back of your trailer that might be able to tow a small trailer. For an example, Curt has an adjustable width trailer hitch, # 13703, that will fit RV frames 22 to 72 inches wide.

However, before you can decide on a hitch for you trailer, you will need to know if your trailer can have a hitch installed in the first place. You can check your owner's manual or contact your dealer to see if installing a hitch is possible. Once you have this information and it is confirmed that you can install a hitch, then you will need to measure the frame width to find the correct hitch for you.

The issue with mounting hitches on the rear of a trailer is the lower gross and tongue weight capacity the trailer has compared to a passenger vehicle. Although towing a trailer is possible, you will need to make sure you do not over load the load limit of on your trailer.

Also, towing a trailer with another trailer is not legal in every state. You will need to check the laws in the areas that you plan to travel.

I have linked a page that shows all the hitches that we carry that are designed to fit on an RV.
