Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller Brake Signal Source
Question:
Getting ready to hook up a Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller in our new 2016 Toyota Highlander Limited and have a question. Is there any problem picking up the Brake Signalinch from the brake light output of the 3-2 wiring converter instead of off the brake light switch, other than running the wire to the back of the vehicle? Would prefer to avoid tapping into the factory wiring if at all possible. Saves any finger pointing if the vehicle has any electrical problems. Thanks for the advice

It is best to avoid tapping into your wiring converter for your brake controller's input signal. The Prodigy P2 # 90885 is designed for the voltages found at the brake light switch, which could differ from what is found at the taillight converter. If you do not want to do the standard hardwire installation then the better alternative is to tap into the brake light signal at the CHMSL (center high-mount stop light, or 3rd brake light). This will also require running a length of additional 12-gauge wire from the CHMSL up to the controller.
