Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2005 Ford F-150 FX4
Question:
I have a 2005 F150 FX4 with a 5.4 triton. It has the towing ball just infront of the license plate in the backbumper ball. I wanted to know which hitch I can use to replace it? Its a class 3 truck. It also has reinforcements for the bed of the truck.

Expert Reply:
For your 2005 Ford F-150 FX4 that only has the bumper hitch I recommend Draw-Tite Class II trailer hitch # 41549. It is rated for 600 pounds tongue weight and 6,000 pounds gross trailer weight. When used with weight distribution it is rated for 1,000 pounds tongue weight and 10,000 pounds gross trailer weight (limited to the capacity of the vehicle). I have linked the installation instructions for you.
I also recommend etrailer ball mount kit # EBMK4. It comes with a ball mount with a 2-3/4 inch rise/4 inch drop, interchangeable ball set, hitch pin with clip, and storage bag. If the ball mount does not have the proper rise or drop to tow the trailer level then you can use the help article I have linked to select a ball mount with the right rise or drop.
And if you do not have a trailer connector you can add a 4-Way flat connector using # C56031.
