The Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit, part # RP30035, is a universal installation kit for fifth wheel hitches that will fit both the 1999 Ford F-250 Light Duty/Super Duty and the 2006 Ford F-250 Super Duty.
There is also a custom installation kit that will work, but the 1999 Ford F-250 Light Duty vehicle will use the part # RP50042-58 and the 1999 Ford F-250 Super Duty and the 2006 Ford F-250 Super Duty will use the part # RP50082-58. The custom installation kits include vehicle-specific mounting brackets that mount to existing holes in your vehicle. This will minimize drilling and measuring and cuts the installation time in half when compared to the universal installation kit. I am including links to the installation instructions on all three of the installation kits.
A standard fixed fifth wheel hitch will work on both vehicles if they both have a 8 foot bed. If the newer vehicle has a 6-1/2 foot bed you will need to use a slider fifth wheel like the Reese 16K 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Round Tube Slider, part # RP30075. This slider hitch allows the hitch to move toward your vehicles tailgate 12 inches, which will create enough space between the cab of your vehicle and the fifth wheel trailer, to allow clearance when making sharp, slow speed turns. A fifth wheel hitch will not work in Flareside/Stepside vehicles.
I am including a link to a FAQ page on fifth wheel information.
